Choosing art can be a hard experience. For some its hard to imagine what will look perfect in the space you need it and other people just don't know what they like.
It doesn't have to be hard!
1. Start researching online or in person (galleries, markets or stores) the kinds of art that you DO like. Be it landscape, realistic, minimal, large, small, local or international. Make a note of all the things that you actually like. I personally keep a board on pinterest so that I can refer to it when I need.
*I have a page on Pinterest if you are interested in seeing what I have found*
2. If fitting in with your home is important - stand back and have a think about the location, size or colours that would either suit or make the biggest impact. Again you might want to look at other homes to get ideas.
3. Have a look at your budget. An original artwork will give you authenticity and feeling of investment (not only financial but emotionally). Whilst a print may be a more affordable purchase to start your decorating.
4. Lastly, simply ask for advice. From me, or other artists that you are interested in. Most artists would love have an open discussion to help you. They will have experience in framing, topic, medium and even colour combinations.
Hope this helps and happy art shopping!
